Maryland s current registration plates were first issued on 26th September 2016 and are reflective white with black lettering. Maryland is at the top in red, and between month and year revalidation stickers. Across the bottom is a stylized version of the state flag. The serial registration, at least for passenger, truck and multipurpose vehicles, is one numeral excluding zero, two letters no longer vertically aligned, and four numerals. The registration commenced in the 8CN series. Two plates are required

Standard chesapeake since 1990

Since January 1991 optional plates have been available for passenger, light truck, trailers and multi-purpose vehicle series. These have Maryland at the top, a heron in mid-registration and Treasure the Chesapeake at the bottom, all in light blue on reflective white. In both lower corners are dark green reeds. The registration from AAB-01A upwards, or with a wheelchair and vertically aligned HP prefix, is also in dark green.
