VDG Sense | Software Installation

Note: This article refers to VDG Sense version 2.5.8 or VDG Sense 2.4.32 or lower. As of version 2.5.9 & 2.4.33, VDG Sense configuration files are no longer located in the C:/Windows/System32 or C:/Windows/SysWOW64 folders and thus no longer affected by major Windows updates.

Configuration for both 32-bit and 64-bit can be found in the C:/ProgramData folder. VDG Sense Client configuration is still located in the user Appdata folder.

Windows major update issue

When upgrading Windows OS from Windows 7 to Windows 8 or Windows 10, settings of DIVA or Sense will not automatically be moved. This can also happen when updating Windows 10 with a major version update. The DIVA or Sense settings will be placed in the Windows.old folder on your system. This folder is a collection of programs and/or files that Windows deems “important” from the previous installation and is used to downgrade back to a previous Windows version. To regain your DIVA or Sense settings, there are three possible actions:

  1. Restore a DIVA or Sense back-up (preferred)

  2. Manually restore the DIVA or Sense files from the Windows.old folder

  3. Automatic restore using a .bat file

Restore a backup

Before upgrading your Windows OS, it is recommended to create a backup of your settings. After succesfully upgrading your Windows version, run DIVA or Sense and restore your backup.

To create a backup:

  1. Open the System tab in your DIVA/Sense client

  2. In the ‘System backup’ section, select “Settings”

  3. Give your backup an appropriate name in the Site info field

  4. Select the system(s) you wish to backup

  5. Click ‘Backup’ to save your setttings

To restore the backup

  1. Open the System tab in your DIVA/Sense client

  2. In the ‘System restore’ section, select the system you wish to restore

  3. Click ‘Restore’

  4. Browse to your saved backup file

  5. Click ‘Open’

  6. Reboot your system
