Dear Reader,

While adding Siqura cameras to the Genetec video management software, you will normally face no issues whatsoever. At the same time, there are some best practices that can best be followed to get the best results with the least efforts. This brief paper will help you further in adding the Siqura 900-series cameras -including the PD910- to the Genetec software.

In preparation of adding Siqura cameras to the Genetec software, you’ll first need to add the proper driver once:

As a next step of preparation, you’ll want to make the initial camera configuration BEFORE adding it to the Genetec software. More specifically, the following choices are best made before adding to Genetec:

  1. The number of video encoders in the camera.
With the 900-series, you are able to configure the camera to feature either one encoder, or 2, 3, or 4 encoders. With the Siqura driver, Genetec is able to read this configuration from the camera, but it is not able to change anything about this configuration. Neither does Genetec expect major changes in this encoder listing, once you have added the camera to the device list.
Therefore, first set the items in the camera’s Streaming tab right via its web page:

For example, if you enable encoders 1 and 2 in the camera web page, and leave the third and fourth one disabled, you’ll have 2 video tabs once you added the camera to Genetec. This cannot (easily) be changed afterwards.

  2. The encoding type of the video encoders in the camera.
Just as already shown in the above picture, the same advice also applies to the encoder type for each (enabled) encoder:

Once added to Genetec, the highlighted fields should not change anymore.

There is one option in Genetec that you can use to follow the encoder related changes. When you decided to change those configuration items via the camera web page, you can then choose to Reconnect to the camera from within the Genetec software:

After this operation completes, Genetec will again be in line with the actual camera configuration.

When adding the camera to the Genetec software, Genetec will overwrite some other configuration items in the camera. Most importantly, your camera will have the resolution and framerate changed to default settings. Genetec will also automatically change these settings back once it finds that these settings were changed outside of the Genetec software (for instance, via the camera web page).

Since the Siqura 900-series camera is backwards compatible with the Siqura 800-series cameras, when it comes to the Genetec video management software, you can use the same driver as already used for the 800-series. You will find this Siqura driver under the name “HDxx, MDxx, 810, 820”.
