1. Introduction
Cockpit is a web-based management tool for Linux servers. It provides an easy way to perform system administration through a web interface. This guide explains how to use Cockpit on your iProtect Ubuntu server.
2. Accessing Cockpit
You can access Cockpit via the following URL:
https://{ipaddress/hostname}/cockpitpanel
Here, you can manage the server, modify settings, and view system information.
3. Logging In
Open a web browser and go to
https://{ipaddress/hostname}/cockpitpanel
.Log in using your server administrator username and password.
If administrative access is required, switch to administrator mode when prompted.
4. Main Menu and Features
Once logged in, you will see a dashboard with the following options:
4.1 Overview
View CPU, memory, and disk usage.
System information
Configuration of hostname, system time and Domain
Check system logs and alerts.
4.2 Logs
View and filter system logs.
Analyze errors and system events.
4.3 Storage
Manage disk partitions and file systems.
Monitor disk usage and status.
4.4 Networking
Configure network interfaces.
Check active connections and firewall rules.
Analyze network logs
4.5 Accounts
Manage user accounts and permissions.
Add new users or change passwords.
4.6 Services
Start, stop, or restart system services.
Check the status of active services.
4.7 Software Updates
Check for and install system updates.
5. iProtect Maintenance Page
Within Cockpit, you can also access the iProtect Maintenance page:
https://ipserver/cockpitpanel/serverbox
Log in with the appropriate iProtect atlas user credentials.
Perform maintenance tasks and adjust iProtect-related settings.
6. Additional Tips
Sudo Access: Some tasks require administrative rights. Click "Obtain administrative privileges" in Cockpit when needed.
Enable Functions: After logging into the iProtect maintenance page, it is important to activate the functions button. If this step is not completed, the page may become unresponsive and will not display any information.
Security: Ensure that only authorized users have access to Cockpit.
Updates: Regularly check for updates via the "Software updates" menu.
