*OpenAPI User Migration
Configuration Article | CA-20200930-TP-28 VDG Sense | OpenAPI | |
VDG Sense 2.6 uses a new method of creating & modifying users and assigning user roles using the OpenAPI. The new method is more secure than previous VDG Sense versions and allows for easier integration with third-party applications if needed.
Some of the new functions are:
Administrators always generate a strong password during user creation
User Passwords are personal for each user and can be changed by the users themselves
Administrators can only generate a new (random strong) password (in case of a forgotten password)
⚠️ IMPORTANT:
The new method is not compatible with VDG Sense 2.5 or lower, and cannot be completely migrated into the OpenAPI. Therefor, if an existing VDG Sense 2.5 installation is upgraded to 2.6, it is required to do a manual password reset of each user. This includes the administrator password.
After installing VDG Sense 2.6, starting up the client for the first time opens up the Web Configurator, where the user can set a new administrator password. This action should be taken as soon as possible. Note that it’s not possible to change the administrator username.
After logging in as an administrator, go to the users configuration tab. Select a user and click the “Generate Password” button. A pop-up will appear containing a new generated password for that user. Note down this password and click OK. Repeat these steps for each existing user.
Note: The password text can also be highlighted and copied to your clipboard
Newly created users will need a generated password as well. When adding a new user, fill in the necessary fields (username and name) and click “Generate Password” to generate a secure password for this user.
The user can change his password using the Web Configurator. Click the “Profile” icon in the login window to open the profile page and login with the username and generated password. In this profile page, the user can change the password.
