1 Introduction

1.1 This Document

This document describes the manual update/reinstallation of the Polyx.


2 File System type

There are two types of File Systems (FS) and Operating Systems (OS) for the Polyx:

  1. JFFS2 (Journalling Flash File System) with O.S. μClinux versie 2.6

  2. UBIFS (Unsorted Block Image File System) with O.S. μClinux versie 3.3

Note: A standard supplied Polyx is based on JFFS2

This manual describes the procedure which must be followed when (re)installing the software.
Keyprocessor continues developing and improving of its products. For the Polyx it means that the default FS (JFFS2) will be replaced for UBIFS.
When using a Polyx based on UBIFS, certain conditions related to the software versions. Please check the software version table below.


3 Preperations

Before starting the update, a serial- and network connection to the Polyx must be set up.
Test before you start if the network connection between your PC and the Polyx is functioning with a ‘ping’ command.

3.1 TFTP server

Please Note! The firewall of your PC needs to be switched of or need to be setup up to accept specified access for the TFTP server.

  • Select with “Browse” the directory containing the S19 files.
    Press on “Show Dir” to check for the right files.

  • Select at server interface the IP-address of the networking card connected with the Polyx.

  • Minimize Tftpd32

3.2 Terminal settings

Before updating the software, in first instance should be checked if the required bootloader is available. This check should be done wit a terminal program, for example Hyperterminal.

  • Connect your PC for example to port 1 “Console” from the Polyx. Use the adapter shown below

  • Open the terminal program and make a connection

  • Select the COM-port of the PC connected to the Polyx.

  • Choose a baud rate of “115200” and choose flow control “none”.


4 Polyx update

4.1 Bootloader

  • Restart the Polyx and at the message “Press any key to stop auto boot” within 3 seconds on any key.

  • Type ‘help’ and press Enter.

  • When the bootloader in the above list not contains “prog” the bootloader require an update, go to chapter 3.2 to perform this update.

  • When the bootloader in the above list contains “prog” the bootloader doesn’t require an update, go to chapter 3.3 to skip this update.

4.2 Update bootloader

  • Restart the Polyx and let the Polyx finish the complete startup.

  • Start a browser and browse to the ip-address what is used in “cliënt address”.

  • For user name user choose “root” with the password used for the root account.

  • Select at Installation file the bootloader: “bootloader-dbug-5i.taz” and press on the “Install” button. After a few seconds a messages will appear in the browser:

After +/- 30 seconds. The polyx will be restarted automaticly

  • Check the process with the terminal program.

  • After the restart, when the messages appears: “Press any key to stop autoboot”, press any key to enter the bootloader.

4.3 Upload File System and Operating System

  • Type ‘show’ and press Enter. All current settings will be shown, number 4 till 8 are important and could be adjusted if necessary. See the table below.

  • When necessary, change:
    o set server <ip-address laptop or PC (Tftpd32)>
    o set client <ip-address Polyx>
    o set gateway <gateway Polyx>
    o set netmask <netmask Polyx>

Type "set" without <option value> for extra help.cmd>

  • Type ‘prog’ and press Enter. The firmware will be downloaded from the laptop or PC with the “Tftpd32” program, also all flash banks will be erased. After a few seconds the following will be displayed:

The Polyx will be restarted automatically.

4.4 Changing the Environment settings

  • Wait until “Welcome To Diags press a key within 5 seconds to enter” appears.

  • Press any key. The diagnose main menu opens after 5 seconds.

  • Press 1 “Environment settings”.

  • Press 2 “Set environment settings”. The environments which can be set are:
    ip_address=
    gateway_address=
    netmask_address=

  • Enter the environment address and press Enter. When finished, go back to the main menu.

  • You must reboot the Polyx for the changes to take effect, press “r”.


5 Polyx software

Depending on the use of the Polyx, other software can be uploaded to the Polyx™ using the web page of the Polyx itself.
When connecting the Polyx to iProtect™ Aurora, the iProtect™ maintenance page can be used for uploading the Nodemanager software or security keys

5.1 Polyx web page

The Polyx has a standard Web page which can be used for uploading files (e.g. Door controller firmware, reader files).

Open a Web browser on your PC/laptop:

  • Enter the IP-address of the Polyx™ (example: http://192.168.1.195 )

  • The upload page of the Polyx will be displayed:

 

  • Enter the Username (root) and Password.

  • Press on the Browse button and select the file which need to be installed/uploaded.

  • Press “install”. The file will be uploaded to the Polyx.
