Hardware requirements for a VDG Sense system depend on a few factors, which differ for server and client side. Note that Sense Start and Sense Basic systems act as both a server and a client.
Server Hardware
The two main considerations for server hardware are the required CPU power and the harddisk bandwidth. For some applications, the server will need to process the video and this will use the CPU. If many cameras are recorded, the maximum bandwidth that will be streamed to the harddisk is also an important factor. When the bandwidth of the recorded cameras exceeds the bandwidth that the harddisk can cope with, frames will be dropped. In general, be careful when the storage calculation tool reports a maximum bandwidth of over 400 Mbit/s. Servers that only record video and do not apply any form of VCA (motion detection, CarR, FaceR or ObjectR) do not have high CPU requirements. Network data will be saved directly to disk without being processed by the VDG Sense software.

The graph shows that:
Enabling motion detection on a camera requires some CPU time.
ObjectR and FaceR require a considerable amount of CPU time.
CarR requires much more processing power than ObjectR and FaceR.
Client Hardware
Displaying video requires the video stream to be decompressed. This will use CPU power for each stream that is displayed. Displaying more cameras will require more processing power. The codec that is used for a stream also has an effect on the CPU power required: an MJPEG stream is easier to decode than an H.264 stream.
