VDG Sense | Video Content Analyses | ColorD

ColorD is the intelligent algorithm to determine the dominant color in a predefined region of a videostream. It is included as an optional and freely available function with a valid Sense Pro license. The algorithm is macro driven which means it will determine the color in a predefined region on command as a macro action  (it does not detect color continuously). Once it has determined the color, it will generate a ‘Color Detected’ event with the following possible values:

  • Brown

  • Orange

  • Yellow

  • Green

  • Cyan

  • Blue

  • Pink

  • Red

  • White

  • Black

  • Grey

This event is stored in the VDG Sense database so it can be searched for and can be used as signal in (server or viewer) macros.

Key applications

Car color detection
Identifying car colors in a parking spot, or at a controlled access point. For instance detect car color if the license plate is scanned.

Clothing     
Identifying clothing color of a person in a queue or controlled access point. For instance determine color of clothing if a person crosses a virtual line.

Limitations

ColorD is not ideal in the following applications:

  • Fast moving cars

  • Highly populated areas

  • Large distances detection

  • Low light conditions

  • Colored light conditions

  • Highly reflected surfaces

  • Identifying multi-colored objects
