VDG Sense | Setup | Layouts

Introduction

The ’Layouts’ tab is used to configure all (multi)layouts. Layouts are required in live mode to display live or recorded video or to handle (video)events. They can be custom designed to fit the needs of the operator. When opening the ’Layouts’ tab the setup tabs are hidden and the ’Layout Manager’ is opened. The layout manager is a floating menu which is used to create, delete and modify (multi)layouts and panels.

A layout consists of panels where each panel has a specific function. For instance a panel can be used to display live video, recorded video, to hold playback controls, display a map or to manage events. The complete list of panel types can be found in the ’Type’ list in the panel section of the ’Layout Manager’.

When installing for the first time, VDG Sense will include 3 premade layouts examples for Live view, Playback view and Event view.

Creating a new layout

Click ’New’ in the ’Layouts’ menu of the ’Layout Manager’, the following dialog will appear:

First, start by choosing a name for the new layout. Select the monitor on which you wish to design the layout and select the resolution of the layout. By default, the current monitor resolution will be set. Click “Full Resolution” if you want to display your layout without using the VDG Sense main navigation. For example for a Video wall. It should be taken into account that layouts are created for a specific resolution, they cannot be re-sized after they are created.

Next you can choose to create an empty layout, choose from one of the pre-made templates (including user made layouts) or to generate a new layout.

Create empty layout Start with an empty layout.

Create from template Choose from several pre-made templates or use an earlier created layout as a template for the new layout.

Generate layout Automatically generate a layout based on your size preferences. State if you want a Live or a Playback type layout, select the amount of rows and columns and choose to include Live/Playback controls.

Press OK to open your new layout.

Layout options

Once a layout has been created, the layout will be loaded in the Layouts section of the Layout Manager.

Layout IDThe ID of the current selected layout. The layout ID is primarily used in API commands.

ResolutionThe resolution of the current layout.

Full ResolutionBy default, the layout resolution will take the height of the VDG Sense main menu bar in account. If the layout will be displayed on a Video wall, click this option to make use of the full height of the resolution.

GridEnables a magnetic grid on the layout canvas. Panels can only be moved or re-sized to the grid points that are visible. Use the ‘grid size’ slider to set the intervals of grid points. Enabling the grid will disable panel snapping.

Allow target modeWhen target mode has been enabled, the user is able to redirect a camera device to a target panel or go to a fullscreen layout by double clicking a panel.

Using the layout canvas

To create your own layout, start by clicking ‘New’ in the “Panels” section of the Layout Manager

This will add an empty video panel to the layout canvas

Move and re-size the panel into a desired position

Add additional panels to the canvas. New panels will automatically snap to existing panels when they are moved closed to each other. When re-sizing a panel, it will automatically show a guideline when they are on the same position as any other panel in the layout.

When you have created a layout of your liking, you can configure the panels. For more information about each type of panel, visit the Layout Panels article.
