All TKH Security software products are protected by a software license key. In order to run this product you will need to obtain a software license file before installing the Sense software. This software package will not install on a DIVA 1.x.x system, please uninstall DIVA 1.x.x before continuing the Sense 2.7.x installation. It will also not install if the SLA does not allow an upgrade.
VDG Sense 2.7 requires user passwords to be 12 characters long. We strongly advise to store the administrator password in a password manager tool.
All user passwords from older Sense installations will have to be reset
VDG Sense 2.7 is NOT backwards compatible with older versions
Minimum Software Requirements
Windows 10, minimum build number 17063.
Windows Server 2016 RS4, minimum build number 17063
Windows 7 is NOT supported.
For Windows, minimum build number 17063 is required, because support of Unix sockets is required to run VDG Sense 2.7.
Installation procedure
Before starting installation, carefully read the release notes. Click on the VDG Sense Setup.exe to start the installation.
STEP 1: License Agreement
The screen below shows the license agreement.
Please review the license terms carefully before installing VDG Sense. You must accept the agreement before being able to install VDG Sense.
STEP 2: Version details
This screen shows the version information of the installed and included (sub)components.
Component | Function |
---|---|
Sense Video Manager | Main process responsible for camera connection and recording |
Sense Client | Graphical Interface to view&playback cameras and configure the system |
Sense Plugin Manager | Process responsible for API/Webclients/3th party interfaces and backups |
Sense Monitor | Windows Icon that displays the status of the services |
Sense Player | Free application to playback exported recordings |
Postgres database | Database used for event storage |
If components are not yet installed, the label ’uninstalled’ is shown. Press ’Next’ to continue installation.
Next step is a warning dialog that you should always have a backup ready if you are updating from older Sense versions. Sense 2.7 is NOT backwards compatible, so in case of a rollback scenario, you need the backup of the previous Sense installation.
STEP 3: Choose Components
Select the components which need to be installed. Selecting the ’Server’ option automatically selects components which are required for a server installation.
By default, the webclient is not installed, for security reasons. If you wish to make use of the webclient, enable this option. (This does not concern the API which is accessible by default)
STEP 4: Choose Install Location
Choose Sense installation folder on this page. Advised to leave this default.
STEP 5: Choose Storage Location
Choose storage location for videodata on this page, as well as the default folder for Clips.
This only concerns clips that are created through an API call. Clips created in the VDG Sense client can be saved in any location.
Note: If the clip folder is located on the same drive as the storage folder, it will affect retention time of the storage as some additional space is saved for clips export. A warning will show if this if the case.
By default, the storage location is “D:\” and the clips location is “E:\”
STEP 6: Choose database location
This is different from older Sense and Diva installations. Due to a new security policy, it’s required that a new password is created for the database connection. Optional, the database can be located on a machine other than the Sense server itself.
Note: The password can not contain parts or be similar to the username
STEP 7: Create a database superuser
For the Postgres version 14.6 database, a superuser is required.
STEP 8: Create a database user account for Sense
Progress of Sense installation
Progress of Postgres Database installation. This installation will only be executed if the ’Server’ option is chosen in the Install Options page.
Choose to reboot the pc after installation. This is required if Sense is installed the first time.
After installation
After Sense is installed 2 icons will appear on the desktop:
Sense Client, shortcut to start the Sense Client software
Sense SystemInfo, small program to create zip file of diva settings, logs, system information and system logs.
STEP 9 First time login
Click on the SenseClient shortcut on the desktop to start the SenseClient.
After starting the Sense client for the first time, you will be asked to login. Use ‘administrator’ as login, and type ‘!DVadmin’ in the password field and click Next. After this, you will be prompted to enter a new password.
After entering the password and confirming it, click on the OK button to go back to the loginscreen and login with your new credentials. Please remember this password well and keep it safe.
