VDG Sense | Software Installation

Upgrading :

 

Upgrade instruction for 2.7 are found here: VDG Sense Installation Instructions – 2.7

From 2.6.6 or lower → latest 2.6.x

Upgrading VDG Sense from 2.6.6 or lower to the latest 2.6.x Before starting the upgrade process, create a back-up of your settings.

Note : If 2.6.7 is already installed you can install the latest version of Sense directly.

  1. Create a back-up of your settings.

    1. Login Sense as administrator

    2. Open Settings

    3. Click on the “System” tab

    4. In the Back-up section, check-mark all the servers in the server list

    5. Add a “Site info” name

    6. Click “Backup” to save your settings

  2. First update to the 2.6.7 version.

  3. Install the latest 2.6 and follow the Installer instructions carefully!

  4. Double check the instructions mentioned in the changelog.

  5. Check if the settings are correctly loaded after VDG Sense 2.6 is installed and launched.

From 2.5 → 2.6

Upgrading VDG Sense from 2.5.x to 2.6.x requires a SUP License and latest Sense 2.5.x installed. Before starting the upgrade process, create a back-up of your settings. It is NOT possible to downgrade from 2.6 to 2.5 without a 2.5 back-up. Back-ups created in 2.6 are encrypted and not usable in 2.5.

  1. Create a back-up of your 2.5.x settings.

    1. Login Sense as administrator

    2. Open Settings

    3. Click on the “System” tab

    4. In the Back-up section, check-mark all the servers in the server list

    5. Add a “Site info” name

    6. Click “Backup” to save your settings

  2. First update to the latest 2.5 version.

  3. Install the latest 2.6 and follow the Installer instructions carefully!

  4. Double check the instructions mentioned in the changelog and OpenAPI documentation.

  5. Check if the settings are correctly loaded after VDG Sense 2.6 is installed and launched.


From 2.4 → 2.5

Upgrading VDG Sense from 2.4.x to 2.5.x requires a SUP License and latest Sense 2.4.x installed. Before starting the upgrade process, it is highly recommended to create a back-up of your settings. The back-up can be used if you wish to downgrade VDG Sense back to 2.4.

  1. Create a back-up of your 2.4.x settings

    1. Login Sense as administrator

    2. Open Settings

    3. Click on the “System” tab

    4. In the Back-up section, checkmark all the servers in the server list

    5. Add a “Site info” name

    6. Click “Backup” to save your settings

  2. If 2.4.31 or lower has been installed, first update to 2.4.32

  3. Install latest VDG Sense 2.5 version

    • (Warning!: all data in C:/Program Files (x86)/VDG Security will be deleted during the upgrade)

  4. Check if settings are correctly loaded after VDG Sense 2.5 is installed and launched

Downgrading :

2.7 → 2.6

VDG Sense 2.7 uses a different encryption standard than previous version, so all settings made in a 2.7 version can not be used in older Sense versions.

Steps for downgrading:

  • Remove VDG Sense completely, using the uninstaller, inclusive database

  • Remove C:\Program Files\VDG Security folder completely

  • Remove Sense client settings in %appdata%\VDG Security

  • C:\ProgramData\VDG Security\Sensevideomanager\Settings folder will have to be removed completely

  • (License files are allowed to stay)

  • All other Sense folders (SenseNginx, SenseFailover, SensePluginmanager, SenseCertificateService, SenseEdgeManager, SenseCitilog, SenseMigrationManager can be removed.

  • After removal, start installation of VDG Sense 2.6

  • Create new Sense 2.6 configuration

 

 

2.6 → 2.5

Note that any setting changes made in VDG Sense 2.6 are not transferred to VDG Sense 2.5. Do not try to restore a VDG Sense 2.6.x back-up in VDG Sense 2.5.x as the setting files are incompatible and may cause unforeseen consequences.

  1.  Create a back-up of your 2.6 settings

    1. Login Sense as administrator

    2. Open Settings

    3. Click on the “System” tab

    4. In the Back-up section, checkmark all the servers in the server list

    5. Add a “Site info” name

    6. Click “Backup” to save your settings

  2. Uninstall VDG Sense 2.6 using the Uninstaller or Windows Configuration. DO NOT uninstall Postgress (uncheck in uninstaller) if you wish to save your event data and video tags.

  3. Install VDG Sense 2.5.x version

  4. Restore your 2.5.x settings (Not the 2.6 backup)

  5. Check if the settings are correctly loaded after VDG Sense 2.5 is installed and launched. Note: Settings made in VDG Sense 2.6 are not transferred!


2.5 → 2.4

Note that any setting changes made in VDG Sense 2.5 are not transferred to VDG Sense 2.4. Do not try to restore a VDG Sense 2.5.x back-up in VDG Sense 2.4.x as the setting files are incompatible and may cause unforeseen consequences.

  1. Create a back-up of your 2.5 settings

    3. Click on the “System” tab

    4. In the Back-up section, checkmark all the servers in the server list

    5. Add a “Site info” name
