iProtect Access / Security | How To Articles |

This document gives information on how to setup card number emulation on a i80p reader. Often called pincode-only use. For the user this acts like a pincode but in the iProtect™ user interface it is a normal access card with pincode behaviour.

This how to will assume you already have an i80p reader functioning with normal access cards.

Go to Menu option: Access > Settings > Card coding > Card number presentation

  • Right-click in the browse window (left bottom)

  • Select “Add Card number presentation”.

  • The detail window of the selected menu item appears and fill in a name (e.q. Card Emulation (PIN)).

  • Fill in Calculated length (4).

  • Click on the Save button.

  • Right-click in the browse window on the new created Card number presentation.

  • Select “Add card data interpretation”.

  • Fill in a name (e.q. Card emulation setup).

  • Select in the drop-down menu “Default card interpretation:” the item “Keypad card selection”.

  • Click on “Set”.

To setup a i80p reader for handling a card emulation, it is necessary to program a default digit to start the card emulation. This must be done in the card data interpretation used for the normal card access.

The card data interpretation for normal access can be found in the reader settings.

Go to menu option: Installation > Hardware > Reader.

  • Click on the Search button or find the desired reader by using the search option.

  • Select the desired reader

At the tab General you can find the selected card data interpretation which is used for the normal access cards.

Now that we know which card data interpretation is used for the card access, we can program the pincode only start key.

Go to the menu option: Access > Settings > card coding > card data Interpretation.

  • Click on the Search button.

  • Select the card data interpretation which is used for the normal access cards.

  • Select the tab “keypad”

  • Set at the “Pincode only key:” selection box the startkey for pincode use (for example 4) .

  • The startkey (4) will always be the first key for the pincode

Set the “pincode enabled (ABA/Wiegand) checkbox when the pincode reader is a wiegand or clock/data reader.

Create the card (pincode), this is a dedicated card for the pincode only functionality.

Go to the menu option : Access > Card

  • Right-click in the treeview and click on add card.

  • Select the card number presentation that has been created for the pincode card.

  • Fill in the card number (pincode)

  • Set the validity of the card

  • Press on the save button.

  • Set the desired access right for the card, this can be done by double-clicking on the card or by clicking on the + sign.

  • Add the card group from the card group list or the single reader(s) at the reader list.

In this case the pincode used at the i80p will be 41234

When you want iProtect™ to fill in a random pin in the card dialogue, you must enable it.

Go to menu option: Installation > Authorization > System user

  • Click on the Search button.

  • Open the user you want to edit with the +

  • Open System settings.

  • Open Card.

  • Select “Display button for next number”.

  • Value box must be selected.

A button will appear at the right side of the “Card number”.
